Fire crews tackle blaze at Sheringham church

Firefighters successfully extinguished a blaze at St Peter's Church in Sheringham yesterday, and no-one is believed to have been hurt.

The fire broke out in the hall adjoining the church in Church Street during a baby massage class. The fire service was called at around 1pm and people were quickly evacuated from the church hall as fire crews attended the scene.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service’s incident report says that appliances from Sheringham and Cromer attended the town centre blaze. Crews wearing breathing apparatus used main jets and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hot spots. They were stood down at 13:41.

Grassroots Antenatal and Postnatal Group, which organised the class, praised the "amazing work" of the fire service. But their meetings next week will be held at Oddfellows Hall in Sheringham from 1pm.
