Male voice choir concerts at Norfolk churches

The Norwich Phoenix Male Voice Choir will be performing at two Norfolk churches during July, and there will be an opportunity for any man to sing with them at a rehearsal in September.

‘Songs for a Summer Night’ is an easy-going mix of songs reintroduced this year from the choir’s early days, several new to their repertoire and, some more well-known choral standards. Along with the customary solo contributions from within its own singing ranks and solo pieces from its accompanist at the piano and organ, Jason Lambert, the choir is led as usual by long-standing Musical Director Sarah Grimes.

The choir is supporting, as its charity of the year, the work in Norfolk of Musical Keys, and has arranged a charity raffle and a retiring collection for that cause.

The concerts will be held at Mile Cross Methodist Church, 341 Aylsham Road, Norwich, NR3 2RU, on Saturday 22 July and at Cromer Parish Church (St Peter & St Paul), Church Street, Cromer NR27 9HH, on Saturday 29 July. Both concerts will start at 7.30pm with doors open at 7pm, and there will be refreshments during the interval. The concerts should finish around 9.45pm.

Tickets, priced at £8 are now on sale from the choir's website, with admittance on the night for non-ticket holders from 7.00pm subject to capacity, (major debit and credit cards accepted).

For any men wishing to try singing with the choir, they will be holding a free open rehearsal evening from 7.30pm to 9.45pm on Thursday 7 September at Mile Cross Methodist Church in Norwich.

Ian Austin from the choir said “We are throwing open our rehearsal doors and warmly invite adult men of any generation or age with an interest in singing to come along and join us for the evening. We sing 4-part harmony in the tradition of the famous Welsh Choirs and have a mission to 'get men singing' in Norwich and wider Norfolk. This is an excellent opportunity to 'see behind the scenes' at the beginning of a new concert season, and a chance to try your hand at singing alongside them with 'no strings attached'.  We do not audition our membership and reading music isn't necessary, so whether you are an established choir singer looking for an additional outlet for your talent, whether you give your best Robbie Williams, Bob Marley, or Frank Sinatra in the shower, or whether you are just considering taking up singing as a new hobby, you will be equally welcome.”
